I have begun the process to get my name legally changed to what I want it to be...what I've been calling myself since I was 13...the name I've identified with for the past 22 years. I can not stand the name my parents gave me at birth. I was tormented as a kid, mentally and physically abused by other kids and a relative that shall go unnamed, and in general had to dissociate from the horrid name. At the age of 13, I made my first split, sending the person with the legal name into an eternity to be the age of 7 and to be the canvas onto which I continually thrust the memories of hurt and violated boundaries.

I can not keep carrying the parasite around with me. I need to legally change my name so hopefully that part of me will break off and fizzle away, ceasing to be a burden. I have spent so much of my life and identity trying to overcome the wounds of long past, and I really NEED to sever the name to go with severing the parasite.

But part of me is afraid to get rid of the youngest member of my defensive system. It's almost like the unglamorous sewage pipe connecting to a house... You NEED it for what it is, even though it's not a pretty or glamorous thing, because something has to siphon away the trash. So should I really totally cut off the one that for over 2 decades has beared the burden of trash, hurt, and pain in my life?

Just in case anyone's getting anxious - because we all know "City of Stone" is a big deal - we have worked out a way to cover it in a fairly coherent manner. There's good news and bad news.

The bad news: We won't have any new posts this Friday as we usually do.

The good news: Next week will be a special "City of Stone" week where we will discuss all 4 episodes within two posts: the first dedicated to everything within the flashbacks, the second to everything set in the modern day. It's the most coherent way we found to break it down.

The time that the posts will appear is still a little up in the air. The second one will most likely appear on Friday, the time we make the usual posts, but the first will be earlier in the week, though we haven't quite decided when. We'll let you know as soon as we do.

Either way, for next week, please rewatch all 4 "City of Stone" episodes and collect your thoughts.

On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

Thank you everyone who posted a comment saying they'd be interested in a read & watch-along! Instead of answering each individually with the same general information, I thought it better to just do a new post.

Please note that I will definitely be setting up a separate community soon along the lines of the expressed interests of everyone. It will be both a read AND a watch along community, but the formatting will make it optional to talk about one, the other, or both in comparison.

It will take me a bit of time, but once the community is done and has been created, I'll definitely let you all know. It will probably be done and up before December, but the Official First Week will start December 1st, story & episode to be announced.

I know a few of you expressed interest in reading in chronological order and if anybody could get me a copy of a generally accepted list of such I'd be very interested in seeing it, since it sounds like it would be an interesting way to read roughly all 60 stories.

In case no one has noticed yet, there have been a lot of Liberty's Kids AMVs popping up on YouTube, some of them added by me. I have recently acquired Sony Vegas and decided to celebrate by making a brand new Liberty's Kids AMV. It is centered around the James/Sarah couple and the song is "They All Fall Down" by Sr-71. During the process of making this, I only used two episodes! x_x. My new Sony Vegas can't use AVI files, which was unfortunetly most of my LK episodes! I only used "Midnight Ride" and "The Turtle" in making this, which was quite a challenge >.>. It was also my first time ever using Sony Vegas and the special effects was like stepping into a candy shop, as someone who has only ever used Windows Movie Maker before.

Was given the notion for this idea because another friend of mine just proposed a read-along for a completely different series.

Is anyone interested in a monthly read-along for the stories? Every month we would all read a certain story and then discuss it in depth. Conversely, if this is more interesting, possibly a Granada series watch along, with an episode a week to discuss and fan over at the same time? Or maybe both!
